Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,

I hope that you, your family and your friends are well and healthy.

I am very excited to work with you this new school year in my new capacity as Interim Acting Principal of The Forest Pak School- PS097Q.

I would like to acknowledge the impact that the COVID-19 Pandemic had and continues to have on all of us. As a NYC resident, educator and father to a child who is starting his academic career in NYC public schools, I understand many of your challenges. As New Yorkers, we were able to go from the epicenter of the pandemic to one of the safest cities in the world.

As you can see and imagine, the 2020-2021 school year will not compare to anything we have experienced. In our planning for a successful opening, the health and safety of our school community, that includes students, teachers, parents and staff has been a major priority. We have a Building Response Team (BRT) that is responsible for responding to all emergencies, including COVID-19 related emergencies. We have a full time nurse that will assist and support us with medical situations. Our custodian staff has the proper material and supplies to clean and disinfect the building daily and throughout the day. Our teachers and service providers have the proper supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to utilize daily.

Due to the health and safety procedures and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, teaching and learning will also look very different from years past. Some of our students will be learning remotely 100% of the time daily. Other students will be learning in a blended environment where groups of students can attend in-person teaching on a rotation. To the extent possible, one classroom teacher, regardless of the learning environment, will teach each group of students. To ensure social distancing, our school and each classroom will have a limited capacity; on average, most classes can hold up to nine students. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) will take place in daily activities and lessons to support our school community deal and adjust to our new “normal”.

I want to thank YOU for being resilient and courageous during these difficult and unprecedented times. I also thank you for being patient during the re-opening process. The constant change of data and the limitations we face have posed some challenges to solidifying our plans.

As a school community, we are committed to keeping every one safe and healthy while providing a high quality education to every student. Your partnership is vital as we continue protecting our children and to ensure that the learning is not interrupted.

We are all in this together!

Sincerely,

Mr. Yassine Aggoub

Septiembre de 2020

Estimados padres / tutores / estudiantes:

Sinceramente,

Sr. Yassine Aggoub

Director (I.A.)

First Day of School

Re-Opening 2020-2021, Learning Preference Survey

The Learning Preference Survey results are in and our Re-Opening team has been working diligently on a plan to maintain a safe re-opening for all. Parents attended a School Wide Re-opening Meeting and many questions and concerns were addressed.

Up to the minute information is being shared daily. Visit this website and check your email and DOJO for all information.

Building Safety

We have put safety procedures in place to keep our students and staff healthy.

  • Masks: Masks must be worn at all times by all adults and students in the building.
  • Handwashing: Students and staff are expected to wash hands thoroughly before and after eating, after using the bathroom, if exposed to body fluids (like saliva or a sneeze), and at other times necessary throughout the day.
  • Social Distancing: Social distancing is required at all times. Please maintain social distancing between families during drop-off and pickup. Parents are not allowed to enter the building.
  • Illness: Students and staff exhibiting signs of illness or having a fever of greater than 100°F must stay home and notify the school. If you or someone you know has COVID-19 (or shows symptoms of COVID-19 such as coughing or fever), it is required that you quarantine for a minimum of 14 days and notify the school.
  • Directions for local COVID testing: Please visit the NYS Coronavirus Find a Test Site to find a test site closest to you.

Remote Learning Expectations

During hybrid or 100% remote learning, your child is expected to complete all assignments provided by the teacher. At the same time, we recognize that working independently at home is different and difficult for many students, so we want to provide flexibility.

  • Students and families should check Google Classroom daily for important updates from their teachers.
  • When signing in for virtual classes or meetings, students are expected to be on time, appropriately dressed, and ready to learn. We suggest signing in 5 minutes before class starts. Please try to reduce background noise and distractions as much as possible.

Technology Support

We are committed to making sure that all students can successfully connect to online learning during their at-home learning days.

  • If your student needs a laptop or tablet, fill out the Device Request Form to reserve your device. Borrowing a device is free!
  • If your children experience internet-connectivity issues with their iPads, they can request help through the Technical Support for Families form or learn more about technical tools.
  • Borrowed devices should be used for school purposes only and kept in a secure location. Take your device with you on in-school days.
  • If you are not able to get internet hooked up in your home, your child's teacher will work with you to provide alternative offline assignments.
